STATE HOUSE HEALTH MONITORING UNIT CONDUCT AN AUDIT ON HEALTH FACILITIES IN BUKEDEA DISTRICT

State House health monitoring unit conducted a one weeks routine monitoring activity on the 14 public health facilities with in the district.
This routine monitoring was aimed at monitoring the performance of the health sector , enhance compliance with government policies , to generate and use quality data tracking progress of implementation and learning from Challenges among others.

The monitoring also emphasised on finding out the infrastructural condition at the health facilities, Human capital Resources ( Health Staff workers VS the number of patients , staff attendance, access to essential medicines supplies , Financing of Health facilities and Accountability.

The team also conducted a community dialogue which was held on the 7th May 2025 at Kachumbala HC III. This engagement was attended by various stakeholders from the district leadership , Health Facility leadership and members of the community.

Such community engagements raise awareness on the rights and responsibilities of the public healthcare, empowerment to own health service delivery and hold leaders and health care providers accountable.

During the community dialogue at Kachumbala HCIII members of the community expressed their gratitude for the good work done by the health facilities staff especially Dr. Kiyai Caroline the facility incharge .

However concerns like Lack of electricity at the facility were raised especially during power blackouts and lack of a standby generator at the Health Facility.

" Mother delivery is sometimes done with the help of torches since there is no reliable electricity connection and neither a standby generator " said Okiror David Charles a concerned resident of Komuge subcounty.

This challenge was confirmed by the Dr. Caroline Kiyai the facility incharge who said the available solar connection has become to weak and maintenance costs have become high to maintain.

However Dr. Emmanuel Odeke said that the district is working hard to ensure that the a powerful standard backup system is availed for the facility.

The monitoring activity was concluded by having a monitoring exit briefing which was presented by Dr. Elijah Semaganda, Assistant Director StateHouse Health Monitoring Unit who delivered the several findings to the district officials and in charges of the various facilities and the concerns will be shared with the responsible parties.

James Luyimbazi, the Chief Administrative Officer of Bukedea district asked the health workers to desist from all the dubious practices such as Drug theft and Corruption for the love of the people of Bukedea district and the country at large

The Health Monitoring unit was established as a medicines / Health Services Delivery Unit in response to the persistent outcry on the poor medicines and health care delivery in the country.
