Bukedea District Uganda Water Project
Background
Red Rhino Development, through the Aqua Trust program, is implementing the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) Operation and Maintenance (O & M) framework in Bukedea District. The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) of the Uganda Government issued an Operation and Maintenance (O & M) framework for rural water in 2020, which requires entities such as UWP/RRD to act as Area Service Providers (ASPs) appointed by District Local Government (DLGs) to ensure that all water points are functional, with any breakdowns fixed within 24 hours, and fees paid by the users which are sufficient to cover servicing costs.
The program intends to address the breakdowns of water point sources through enrolling communities into Aqua Trust for professional operation and management. This will enable access to safe and clean water, with increased functionality of the boreholes.
Access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is fundamental to health education, and economic development. In Uganda, millions of people face challenges in accessing clean water and proper sanitation facilities. These challenges contribute to health risks, particularly among children and vulnerable population.
This project aims to address these issues by improving access to sustainable water sources, promoting hygienic practices, and strengthening sanitation infrastructure. The project's success relies on the collective efforts of stakeholders, which necessitates a collaborative orientation meeting.
Objectives of the orientation Meeting
