Rotaract Earth initiative launched in Bukedea DIstrict.

On the 26th April 2025 , Rotaract Earth Initiative launched it's activities in Bukedea district. The event which was held at Bukedea Primary School was marked by several activities which included tree planting sessions and a free Health camp held at Bukedea Health centre IV.in Bukedea district.

The Bukedea edition is a large scale environmental conservation project aimed at addressing key sustainability challenges in Bukedea.

The initiative is focussed on mitigating climate change and deforestation through tree planting and other related activities.

Adele Anna Ebaju, the district Woman Member of Parliament for Soroti district who was the chief planter representing the Rt. Hon Anita Among commended the Rotaract Earth Initiative members for such a program that restores the green cover in Teso region.

" Teso being a flat surface area is always prone to flooding so activities such a tree planting help reduce on the effects of flooding disasters in the region " Ebaju said

She continued to say that Environmental protection is also key in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals such as Climate Action (SDG 13) and Life on land (SDG 15) since environmental issues are interconnected with social and economic challenges .

" The best time to plant trees was 20 years ago but the second best time is now " she quoted

She also told people that the RT Hon . Anita is a big advocate for tree planting and education especially girl child education. So having such impactful activities in school ignites children to remain in school as it as a lasting impact on them.

Hon. Adeke asked the school management to be good custodians of the trees planted and preserve them extremely well.

The 11th edition of the Rotaract Earth initiative will be held in Bukedea District in October from 3rd - 5th 2025 under the theme Roots of Change , building resilient communities of climate action "focussing on sustainability, conservation and community development.

The initiative aims at planting more than 20,000 trees in Bukedea district to combat and improve the local environment.
