INSPECTORATE OF GOVERNMENT HOLDS ANTI CORRUPTION BARAZA IN BUKEDEA TO PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
The Inspectorate of Government ( IG) held a community Barazar on Thursday 23rd at St Mark Church in Bukedea Subcounty in order to bring services closer to the people and strengthen the fight against corruption.
The event attracted residents , local leaders , civil servants and community groups aimed to enhance transparency , accountability and citizen participation in governance .
The interactive public meeting was led by officials from the Office of the Inspector General of Government ( IGG) under the theme " Zero Tolerance to Corruption" provided a platform for ordinary citizens to directly engage government representatives , raise concerns and demand answers on service delivery.
Speaking at the event , Ms. Christine Lamwaka, Manger for Advocacy and Capacity building emphasized on the importance of community involvement in the fight against corruption.
"Corruption thrives in silence . When the community speaks out and demand accountability, things begin to change" said Ms Lamwaka . This Baraza is about empowering you to ask questions report wrongdoings and become watch dogs in your communities.
The audience was given an opportunity to raise issues regarding what was happening in terms of service delivery in the district , corruption among others.
Mr. Samuel Akol , a resident of Bukedea Subcounty raised a concern on the recruitment process in the District and also under various like police recruitment.
" We have educated our children but they have failed to get government jobs within in the district but the jobs are given to outsiders " he said .In response , the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr.James Luyimbazi explained that district recruitment is open to all people in the country and that's why the advert is run in the national newspapers .
" The recruitment process is very fair and competitive to all qualified Ugandans even those outside Bukedea district " he emphasised.
In addition to the interactive session , the IG team educated residents on how to report corruption cases anonymously using the IGG toll free lines , suggestion boxes and online platforms
This community engagement is part of a boarder anti- corruption drive supported by government to enable transparency and accountability.
