Extension Workers in Bukedea Trained to Profile Farmers Under Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project ( UCSATP

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) conducted a training on Tuesday 22nd July 2025 for extension workers in Bukedea District to equip them with skills to profile farmers under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP).

The training is part of a wider national effort to help extension workers effectively learn how to profile farmers that are to benefit from the project . By profiling farmers, extension workers will be able to collect accurate data on farmers’ locations, farm sizes, crops grown, access to inputs, and the various challenges faced by the farmers .

According to Ssesanga Fred, Agricultural Engineer with Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries the data will be collected digitally using the kobo collect application given to the extension workers.

This data collected will help provide accurate information to the government and its partners in order to provide tailored support to specific farmers and groups , such as drought-resistant seeds, proper planting advice, and access to climate-smart technologies.

“This training will help us understand the farmers better. Once we have the right data, we can offer the right advice and support,” said Fred Ssesanga

The profiling exercise will also focus on ensuring that women, youth, and other vulnerable groups are included. Trainers emphasized the importance of capturing accurate data and working closely with farmer groups across all sub-counties in the district.

The Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project is a six-year initiative supported by the World Bank. It aims to improve productivity, market access, and resilience among smallholder farmers in 69 districts, including Bukedea.

With this training, extension workers in Bukedea are now expected to begin profiling farmers in their areas in preparation for the rollout of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project in the district.
