Bukedea District trains newly recruited Officers on Parish Development Model to strengthen Grass root transformation.
In a major step towards enhancing grassroot service delivery and accelerating the implementation of the parish Development Model , Bukedea district Local Government organised a capacity building training for the newly recruited Parish Chiefs, Community Development Officers and Agricultural Officers
The two days long training that commenced on the 19th -20th May 2025 held at the Bukedea district Headquarters brought together 24 newly appointed officers who are set to play a central role in the execution of Parish Development Model across the district parishes.
The initiative aims to build the capacity of these frontline workers to effectively mobilize communities , support production and ensure proper coordination of government programs.
While giving his opening remarks, the Resident District Commissioner, Mr. William Tukei emphasized the strategic importance of the Parish Development Model and the need for well trained personal at the local level .
"Being at the front line of the fight against poverty calls for discipline and love for your job. The success of PDM depends on your ability to guide, mobilize and support our people to fully participate in economic development " Mr Tukei told the trainees
The training covered all the pillars with strong emphasis on production, financial inclusion , data collection, community mobilisation and mindset change.
The Agricultural Officers are being specially trained to support enterprise selection, market access , strategies aligning with the production pillar of Parish Development Model
Mr. Jude Ongota , Principal Agricultural Officer said that involvement of Agricultural officers is critical to ensuring the Parish Development Model leads to tangible results.
"Our role as agricultural officers is to help communities select viable enterprises adopt improved practices and increase productivity. This equips is to work closely with farmers and guide them towards Commercial agriculture " he said
Community Development Officers were trained on group formation , SACCO management and mindset change campaigns aimed at empowering vulnerable groups such as women, youth and person with Disabilities.
Otim Moses, District Commercial Officer and PDM focal person said the training also seeks to strengthen transparency and accountability mechanisms.
"Parish Development Model is not just about disbursing out money , it is about changing the way our communities think , work and grow "
He also emphasised that in the disbursement of money ensure that all the other pillars are also emphasised and handled " Otim said
He continued to warn the trainees to stay away from any mismanagement of PDM funds that will get them in trouble , he said .
District officials has expressed confidence that the training will improve coordination and implementation of the PDM and ultimately lead to improved livelihood and inclusive development in Bukedea.
